KM EARTH INSTITUTE ICELAND TRIP!!! This summer, Kettle Moraine Earth Institute offered an opportunity for KM students to explore Iceland on an amazing adventure! Students explored the island, learning about the incredible landscape and rich history of Iceland. We walked underneath and then to the top of many waterfalls, climbed on a glacier, explored black sand beaches and walked the shoreline of a glacial lagoon filled with icebergs. We saw whales (Humpback and Minke) along with Puffins and other amazing wildlife. Students toured a geothermal power plant and the lava center where they learned about how the very active volcanic region influences the natural history and economics of the island. We were even able to touch the boundary between two tectonic plates (North America and Eurasian) while hiking in Thingviller National Park.
