PERFORM ECOLOGY IN ACTION!!! Jake Zuehl, a Master Naturalist from Landscapes for the Future, has joined our KM Perform Ecology in Action seminar as a Guest Artist. Over the next few weeks, he’ll be working with our 9th graders to unlock the secrets of the ecosystems right here on campus. Throughout the seminar, students will be analyzing aerial maps to see how land development impacts native plants, testing soil samples from various campus locations to sprout "hidden" seeds, and cultivating fungi. We recently kicked things off by collecting soil samples to see what’s hiding underground. So far, the microscopes have revealed a hidden world of teeny worms and tiny spiders! Thanks to Mr. Callies for sharing this story.

SPEECH HEADS TO STATE!!! The KM Speech team, (formerly Forensics) will be competing at the WISDAA's state wide competition this weekend. This is no small feat! These students have put in countless hours selecting literature, honing performances, crafting speeches, and then performing them for judges across multiple events and venues. In order to qualify for state, multiple judges must award our students scores that represent advanced proficiency in their perspective categories. The following students will be attending the state-wide meet on Saturday in Madison Wisconsin: Amelia Previte reading "The Doomed City," Benjamin Previte speaking on "The Goldfish Eating Fad of 1939," and Lucy Shaw reading "Sunshine. In addition, the following students will be competing in the state-wide virtual meet next week: Kirby Roberts orating "Change is real, and change is possible," Anastasia Swanson reading "Narrow Road to the Deep North," and Maria Swanson speaking on "1930's household habits." Founded in 1895 the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech & Dramatic Arts Association (WISDAA) is one of the country’s oldest interscholastic secondary school activities organizations of its kind. Deriving from the Latin word forensics, public discourse in search of the truth, we welcome all middle and high school students to enhance and refine communication skills, to foster creativity, and to share perspectives.
